The Sawtooth winters are quiet, tranquil and full of winter activities. It’s a time for reflection and growth. Winters here in Stanley are a truly wonderful secret.

Here are some of our favorite winter activities in Stanley, ID and a few reasons why you should come see the Sawtooths blanketed in snow and experience the frosty temps.

Outdoor Play:

There are MANY wonderful outdoor winter activities in Stanley. We are known for deep snow and cold bluebird days! Proper winter gear is a must. Layering for all types of weather is recommended, we’d hate for you to have to turn in early! There are opportunities to snowmobile, cross country ski, fat bike, snowshoe, back country ski and ice skate. All offering beautiful views of Stanley.

For more information on winter activities check this out! One of our favorite activities is to hike into Redfish Lake. The road closes to vehicles on December 1st. Parking is available on Highway 75, it’s a four mile round trip walk into the lake and back to the highway. The views are incredible, you even get an up close look at Little Redfish Lake. This is a multi-use trail, so keep an eye out for snowmobiles, skiers, and fat bikers. The road is often packed down enough that snowshoes are not required. A good pair of snow boats is all that you really need. Check with our office on local conditions! If you would like to rent a fat bike, head over to Triangle C Cabins

Soak:

While many of the hot springs become difficult to access during the winter, there are several that are right off the road. They still provide an awesome Idaho Hot Springs experience. Our three favorites are Kirkham, Sunbeam and Boatbox Hotsprings. Feel free to ask us about any other hot spring recommendations!

Eat:

Our favorite places to eat, drink, and warm up in the winter include the Stanley High Country Inn, the Mountain Village Restaurant, Stanley Supper Club, Papa Brunees and the Kasino Club. In November, December and parts of April the only open restaurant is Mountain Village, they offer a great bar and menu during this down time in Stanley. The Chamber of Commerce has a great list of all the eating options in Stanley!
